The Culinary Arts of Fruit Carving

The preparation of food has been considered by many as a form of artistic activity and many people have dedicated their life to be involved in one of human early civilization achievement. The arts of fruit designs are usually confined to the royal kitchen, and the royal chef has a major part in ensuring that the food is beautiful and delicious. The ancient art of carving fruit and vegetables was eventually allowed for special occasions such as offerings to the religious leaders, weddings and other special events and ultimately for the common man. Today, although the design is still the gold standard for Thai fruit and vegetable carving, the art is also popular all over the world now.

The Culinary arts of fruit carving have been one of the most challenges work to every professional chef. There are two categories of Culinary arts fruit designs. One category is “hard” fruits. In the fruit of hard category, you can perform very detail and fine carvings. The hard fruits are the best platform for you to carve the shape of animals, flowers, and other intricate patterns. The difficult and intricate carving can only make possible with hard fruit. The second category is reserved for designs that require small details and dealing with “soft” fruits. The soft fruits such as bananas and papayas are difficult to carve with intricate designs because they tend to become mushy and lose their moisture. Therefore, an artist must work quickly with such fruit. It will need you to be really skilled to work with soft fruit. There are not many artists who can carve intricate and detail designs on soft fruits.

The artists of Culinary arts are not only used the pulp, or flesh, of fruit or vegetables use for their designs. They also use the skin as an artistic decoration and use it to help design the overall presentation on the plate.
